Stanford Defends Coed Title at Conference Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif.-- Stanford Sailing defended its title at the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference coed championships, beating UC Santa Barbara by 29 points over the two-day regatta.

Mateo Vargas and Rebecca King had the second-best score in the A Division, tallying no place lower than fifth for 37 points as Stanford combined to score 77 points for its second consecutive conference coed title, ahead of second place UCSB (106 points). UCLA, which was second after day one, fell to third with 109 points.

The B Division, of Kevin Laube and Kelly Ortel, tallied a division-best 40 points, finishing fifth or better among the 12 competitors in 10 of the 12 races.

The conference team championships are next weekend on Stanford's home course in Redwood Shores. The women's championships are the weekend after to close out the month in Santa Barbara. Nationals follow into May.
