STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford men's rowing will participate in one of the biggest days of racing in the U.S. this Saturday, as it takes on No. 1 Washington as well as the top boat from Cambridge University at the Windermere Cup in Seattle.
"We are honored to be part of Opening Day," said Stanford men's rowing head coach Craig Amerkhanian. "Our men will have a lifetime experience being a part of this unique event, and we are thankful for the support from the University of Washington and Windermere Real Estate."
The I Eight will race top-ranked Washington and Cambridge Saturday in the Windermere Cup Race as part of historic Opening Day in Seattle. Expected to draw in excess of 100,000 people, the race is scheduled to get underway at 11:45 a.m.
Stanford's II Eight will also race against its opposite numbers from Washington and Oregon State Saturday.
"This week we are looking to improve as we work for more speed. The Pac-10 Championships are a week from Sunday so the time is now for the men."
Cambridge is fresh off the boat race vs. Oxford on the Thames River in London, one of the world's most watched sporting events.
