STANFORD, Calif.-- The Diekroeger brothers each drove in two runs as No. 25-ranked Stanford (27-16) won its sixth in a row, following a 11-4 win over visiting UC Davis (15-27).
Danny, a freshman, had a two-run single as part of a four-run third, while Kenny, a sophomore, drove in runs in the third and seventh innings. Stephen Piscotty went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Tyler Gaffney drove in runs in the third and the five-run fourth inning as Stanford built a 9-1 lead.
Austin Wilson extended his hit streak to 11 games with three hits as Dean McArdle (7-2) picked his second-straight midweek win. The righthander gave up one run on six hits through the first six, before giving up four hits and a two-run pinch hit homer to Spencer Bran in the seventh. He finished by giving up four runs (three earned) over 6.1 innings.
The Cardinal got on the board in the third with four runs off of starter Harry Stanwyck (1-3), as an RBI single by Tyler Gaffney got things started, before a two-run single by Piscotty made it 3-0. An RBI groundout by Kenny Diekroeger capped the first of two, big rallies.
Stanford added five runs in the fourth to lead 9-1.
Piscotty's RBI single in the fourth made it 6-1 chasing Stanwyck from the game after 3.1 innings. The first eight runs were credited to Stanwyck as Stanford sent 11 men to the plate off of two Aggies. Reliever Ryan Lucas then surrendered a two-run single by Danny Diekroeger followed by an RBI single from Lonnie Kauppila to make it 9-1.
NOTES: Stanford travels to Oregon this weekend for games at 7 p.m., 2 p.m and 1 p.m... likley rotations are RHPs Mark Appel, Danny Sandbrink and Jordan Pries for the Cardinal and LHP Tyler Anderson, RHP Alex Keudell and LHP Aaron Jones for the Ducks... in the first and second innings, the Cardinal completed two double plays turned impressively by Kenny Diekroeger and Lonnie Kauppila up the middle. Both off balance, both extinguishing singles... Wilson's double in the third extended his hit streak to 11 games... Zach Jones doubled in the fifth, his 14th of the season. Back on March 21 the last time Stanford played UCD, he had one... Forty-Niner head coach Jim Harbaugh took in the game.
