STANFORD, Calif. - Eight Stanford senior student-athletes were named recipients of the Class of 2011 Award of Excellence, the University announced.
Shelley Alexander (women's gymnastics), Sarah Flynn (lacrosse), Kim Hall (women's water polo), Kelly Hill (women's rowing), Grace Luczak (women's rowing), Austin Quarles (wrestling), Greg Hirshman (men's tennis), and Corinne Smith (synchronized swimming) were among the 100 select members of the Class of 2011 to earn the honor.
The Award of Excellence is presented to a very small cadre of graduating seniors who exemplify service to Stanford, leadership in student activities, and a dedication to the University. The Award recognizes those in the senior class who have given of their time to make Stanford a better place and a more vibrant community. And it acknowledges those who have contributed above and beyond the classroom to make Stanford such an amazing institution.
Nominations for the award come from a wide audience of Stanford staff, faculty, coaches, advisors and senior administrators. They consider students who have made a major contribution to Stanford in their time here, and whose impact has been deeply noticed and appreciated.
The recipients were honored at a reception at Stanford Alumni Association last week and will be listed in the program as an Award of Excellence recipient at Stanford's Class Day Lecture program on Saturday, June 11th at Maples Pavilion during Commencement Weekend.
