MORAGA, Calif. - Stanford got its exhibition season underway on Wednesday evening with a matchup with Saint Mary's. The Gaels prevailed, 2-1, but the result was not important as the Cardinal got a chance to look at several new players and different combinations.

Stanford played 19 players overall, including four freshmen and four redshirt freshmen. Saint Mary's scored two first half goals, before Stanford got one back on an Adam Jahn penalty kick in the 39th minute.

The second half went scoreless with Preston Langholz taking over in goal and making one save. Galen Perkins allowed the two first half goals.

The Cardinal outshot Saint Mary's, 9-6, including five shots on goal. Jahn and freshman Zach Batteer each had multiple shots on goal, while Alexander Binnie also shot on target.

The Cardinal will complete its brief exhibition season with a matchup at Sacramento State on Sunday, August 21, at 5 pm. Stanford opens its season at Bay Area rival Santa Clara on August 27.
