STANFORD - SAN JOSE STATE
POST GAME QUOTES

September 3, 2011

Stanford Coach David Shaw

Thoughts on game...

"We're a deeper team that people thought we were. We knew we had some outstanding running backs, we knew we had some outstanding tight ends that were proven. I'll tell you what, our secondary, it wasn't perfect, but it was good."

Running game...

"We ran the ball well in the first half. It wasn't a great game. We want to be able to say every single game that we ran the ball great because that's our heart."

Team Performance...

"We had a lot of guys who were also unsatisfied with the game. We missed some balls we should've caught. We put our hands on three balls we should've caught. That's not us. Our running back got hit behind the line a few times. That never happens to us. But that's a credit to San Jose State. They're quicker; they're quicker than you think up front."

First win as head coach...

"This was our first victory as a team. It didn't come perfectly, but hopefully it's a stepping stone to next week."

Stanford Quarterback Andrew Luck

On offensive mistakes...

"We never really got into a rhythm on offense, but the defense and special teams really put us in a good spot over the course of the game. I don't think though that we are completely satisfied."

"We are not focused 100 percent, but it's something that is correctable."

On Coach Shaw...

"We are so excited to have him as a head coach. As much as we wanted to win, we wanted to win for him."

Stanford Wide Receiver Chris Owusu

On offensive performance...

"It was fun to get back out there on the field. In the first half we weren't as focused as we should be, but it was fun to come back in the second half it was fun to get the ball and come out the way we did."

San Jose State Head Coach Mike MacIntyre

"We gave up 35 points in this game by our mistakes. We just gave them the game, that's basically what we did."

"Stanford's a good football team. They're better than we are and I think they're a good football team. We gave them a ton of points, the score's not as indicative of the game and we gave them so many things but I think they're a very good football team and they'll have a great year."

"I think we did a pretty well against the run. Last year Stanford just gashed people against the run, they gashed Virginia Tech with the run and gashed Oregon on the run and they weren't able to do that against us today."

"Defensively they whipped our butts up front, we had nowhere to go. We did decent against them on the pass protection but rushing-wise they whipped us up front."

"Stanford's got a really physical front, really good linebackers, sure tacklers and we couldn't run the ball like we wanted to."

"Andrew Luck is an excellent player, he should be the Heisman Trophy winner. Watching as much film as I did coming into this game, he's a phenomenal football player."
