STANFORD, Calif.-- Underclassmen Stephanie Phipps, Maddy Schaefer and Andie Taylor won two events a piece to pace Stanford (1-0) over county rival San Jose State (0-1) 167-125 on Friday afternoon.
Phipps opened up with a sweep of the diving, scoring a 260.5 in the three-meter and a 243.6 in the one-meter, tallying 6's or higher throughout the six jumps of each event. Amy Kilby and Jessica Holden followed in second and third in both events for SJSU.
Fellow sophomore, Taylor, won the 200 fly (2:02.02) and the 200 IM (2:04.08) as Stanford had the top time in 14 of the 16 events. Schaefer, swimming in her first collegiate meet, was first in the 100 back (57.70) and took home the top time in the 100 free (51.26).
San Jose State's Kirsten Trammell picked off wins in the 100 breast (1:04.99) and 200 breast (2:23.02).
The Cardinal, who played fourth at the NCAA meet last spring, will next host the George Haines Invitational on October 14 and 15 at the Avery Aquatics Center.
