WASHINGTON D.C. - Stanford fell to 0-3 with a tough 1-0 loss in overtime at Georgetown. After 90 scoreless minutes and a period of scoreless overtime, the Hoyas finally broke through with the game winner.
Jason Dodson started in goal for Stanford and made five saves, keeping the Cardinal in the game. Stanford was outshot 15-4, but kept a clean sheet until the 105th minute when Steve Neumann scored for the Hoyas.
The Georgetown goal came after an initial shot rebounded into the box. A pair of Hoya players passed the ball in the in a scramble in front of the goal, before Neumann finished the shot and the game.
It was a tough way for the Cardinal to end its East Coast trip and return home. However, the Cardinal will now get to play five straight home games at newly renovated Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. The home games should be an opportunity for the Cardinal to get things going back in a positive direction.
The Cardinal was led by Dersu Abolfathi who had two shots, including one on goal. The Cardinal are still looking for its first goal of the season.
Next up for Stanford is No. 21 Kentucky as part of the Cal Legacy Classic. The game will kickoff at 3:00 p.m. at Cagan Stadium as a part of a triple-header that includes two games of the women's Stanford Nike Classic. The rematch of the National Championship game with the Cardinal women and Notre Dame will be at 7:30 that evening.
