LONG BEACH, Calif.-- A quartet of Stanford swimmers-- Matthew Swanston (100 back), David Nolan (100 fly), Matt Thompson (400 IM), Rob Andrews (200 free)-- took home wins on the second day of the Arena Invite.
Nolan won his second individual event of the weekend, the 100 fly with a time of 47.04 and was a part of his third winning relay, the 200 medley, helping the Cardinal to a time of 1:27.07. Nolan was ahead of senior Bobby Bollier (47.30) in the 100 fly as one of six Cardinal swimmers in the top flight finals.
David Mosko, Nolan, Bollier and Andrews were a part of the pool-record setting squad in the 800 free relay, swimming 6:28.36 to break a six-year old record (6:30.16) in the event. Earlier, Andrews won the 200 free ahead of freshman Thomas Stephens, outdistancing his younger counterpart 1:36.82 to 1:37.05.
Thompson picked up the win in the 400 IM with a time of 3:46.58 ahead of four teammates who finished second through fifth for the clean sweep of the top-five.
Swanston was the first of four Cardinal in the top-six of the 100 back, pacing the field at 47.50 ahead of Jon Edwards' mark of 47.73.
At the first day of the Wildcat Diving Invite, senior captain Taylor Sishc finished fifth in the one-meter finals (319.50) and Noah Garcia was sixth (304.10) behind Arizona's Ben Grado and his winning mark of 372.45.
The nine-team men's Arena Invite runs through Saturday.
