LAS VEGAS - The Stanford wrestling team closed out the 30th annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational with two placewinners, Saturday, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Senior Nick Amuchastegui was 3-0 in the tournament before having to medically forfeit his final three matches to finish sixth overall at 174 pounds. Ranked No. 1 in the nation, Amuchastegui recorded a fall and two decisions to improve to 11-0 overall this season.
Junior Ryan Mango, ranked fifth nationally, placed seventh at 133 pounds. After going 3-1 on Friday, Mango finished the tournament with two more wins. The St. Louis, Mo., native recorded a 12-7 decision over Oregon State's Garrett Drucker in his first bout on Saturday. After being edged 5-4 by Harvard's Steven Keith, Mango finished out with a 17-5 major decision over Navy's Aaron Kalil. Mango is now 13-2 overall this season.
After taking a two week break for finals, the Stanford wrestling team will be back in action on Sunday, Dec. 18 at the Reno Tournament of Champions. The Cardinal will close out the 2011 year at the Midlands Championships in Evanston, Ill., Dec. 29-30.
