STANFORD, Calif.-- No. 17-ranked Stanford (16-9) scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat visiting Pacific (10-19) 3-1 on Tuesday evening.

Chris Reed (1-1) pitched two perfect innings for the win, using just seven pitches in the ninth to secure the victory. Stanford rallied off of Jared Wagner (0-3) and Robbie Richardson in the eighth to take its only lead of the game.

Jake Stewart led off the eighth by taking a Wagner 3-2 pitch to the left center field wall for a triple. Zach Jones followed with an RBI double to tie it at 1-1. A wild pitch pushed Jones to third, as following a walk, Richardson was brought in, and with runners on the corners, second baseman Tyger Pederson hesitated and decided to go to second for the first out, allowing Jones to score and make it 2-1.

Richardson then failed to pick off Stephen Piscotty, as the two base error put Piscotty on third with one out. Brian Ragira followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.

Matthew Carvutto pitched three scoreless innings in relief, as he was in line for the win until the Stanford rally.

Pederson drove in the first run of the game with a two-out RBI single to left to give UOP a 1-0 lead in the seventh after three Stanford pitchers combined to retire 11 in a row and allow one hit through the first six scoreless innings.

A.J. Vanegas pitched three scoreless innings to start the contest. Vanegas worked out of a two on, with one out, jam in the third with a strikeout and fielder's choice to keep in scoreless early. Elliott Byers threw three perfect innings, his longest career outing , to send it into the seventh. Scott Snodgress gave up the only run in the seventh.
