REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.-- Stanford Sailing put its full force on the Bay Area seas with its four teams occupying the top four spots of the one-day regional North Regatta, while also leading the two-day Bryson Women's Regatta.
In a field of 19 teams, coed skippers Kieran Chung-Wolf and Hans Henken tallied a low of 31 points over the six races to win the first North Regatta of the season.
Teammates and fellow skippers Kevin Laube and Jack Ortel were three points back, as Laube and his crew of Kelly Ortel had the top A Division by winning all but the first race to finish with eight points. Overall the team had 34 points.
In the B Division, Henken and Natalie Urban had the top divisional score, 10 points, finishing in the top-three in all six races, leading to the three-point win. Chung-Wolf and Yuri Namikawa had 21 points.
In the Bryson's Women's Regatta, the Cardinal tallied a low of 42 points, four points ahead of the Women of Troy. The A Division team of Sally Mace and McKenzie Wilson finished first or second in six of the eight races in the A Division for 16 points. USC closed the deficit by leading the B Division with 19 points, seven points better than Stanford's B team of Molly McKinney and Kaitlyn Baab.
On Sunday the Bryson Women's Regatta continues, while another regional regatta, the second North race will begin. There are five regional regattas for both Northern and Southern California with the top-five teams headed to the conference championships.
