FEDERAL WAY, Wash.-- Stanford had two runner-up finishes and three athletes finish in the top-three on the second full day of the Pac-12 Championships as the Cardinal trail California with one day to go.
Maya DiRado (400 IM) and Sam Woodward (100 fly) were runners-up early as Stanford held its lead through two events, while Andi Murez (200 free), Betsy Webb (100 back) and diver Taylor Sishc (1-meter) were third in events later in the evening. Stanford was also third in the 400 medley relay to close out the night.
Cal took over the lead with wins in three individual events and lead with a score of 961.5 over Stanford's 868 points. USC is in third with 819 points.
Webb bettered her school-record to 52.13 in the 100 back, while Woodward (100 fly) and Murez (200 free) also posted top-five times for the Stanford record books.
DiRado was a runner-up to Cal's Caitlin Leverenz in the 400 IM, with a time of 4:03.82 as the Bear led all swimmers with a time of 3:58.46. Andie Taylor also made the A Finals, finishing seventh (4:12.15). Kirstie Chen won the C Finals with a time of 4:15.53 as Stanford had five swimmers in the top-20, racking up 81 points to maintain the lead to lead off day three.
Woodward was also a runner-up after being the last woman in the A final. She swam a best of 51.79, .07 seconds shy of Cal's Sara Isakovic. Felica Lee and Haley Sims won the B and C Finals as Stanford's lead narrowed to 16 points. Woodward's time was a career-best and the fourth-best all-time.
In the men's 1-meter Stanford had four divers finish in the top-10 with Taylor Sishc finishing third with 362.40 points and freshman Connor Kuremsky finishing fourth at 313.40. Sishc averaged 8.0's or better in each of his first three dives and and 7.5's on a reverse 2 ½ somersault for a high of 69 points. He finished off the day with 7.0's on his final two dives. Kuremsky finished off his first Pac-12 meet with 8.0's on his first dive, an inward 1 ½ somersault followed by 65.10 points on an inward 2 ½ somersault. He had 7.5's on a forward 2 ½ somersault, before scoring 5.0's and 3.5's on his next two dives. He finished the meet with 7.5's on a forward 1 ½ somersault twist.
Andi Murez finished third in the 200 free with a career-best 1:44.54, the fourth-fastest time in school history, though Cal passed Stanford in the standings midway through the night. Stanford then had three swimmers in the B Finals of the 100 breast led by Katie Olsen who won the consolation finals as Cal maintained its lead.
Webb was then the fourth top-three finish for the Cardinal, finishing third in the 100 back, before she, Woodward, Olsen and Lee closed out the night in third in the 400 medley relay.
The diving and swimming championships runs through Saturday.
