Cardinal Takes Series Following Sixth-Straight Win

STANFORD, Calif.-- Brett Mooneyham (2-0) struck out seven over eight innings and Kenny Diekroeger and Jake Stewart each had three hits to lead No. 2-ranked Stanford (6-0) to its sixth-straight win to start the year following a 6-2 series clincher over No. 7-ranked Texas (2-4) on Saturday afternoon.

Mooneyham scattered one run on three hits over the first 8.0 innings, striking out seven and walking three to win his second-straight start after missing 2011 with a finger injury.

Diekroeger went 3-for-4 with a two-run double in the team's three-run fifth, while Stewart, doubled and scored in the fifth and had an RBI single in the eighth.



Austin Wilson homered to leadoff the fifth, a high-flying solo shot to left to ignite the inning. Stewart's double off the top of the wall then chased starter Hoby Milner (1-1) from the game, before Diekroeger's two-run double three batters later made it 5-0.

An RBI double by Lonnie Kauppila followed by a Eric Smith's second sacrifice fly of the season made it 2-0 in the second.

NOTES: Stanford has its first 6-0 start to the season since 1998, just the fourth time since 1982 the Cardinal have won six-straight to begin the year. It has happened just seven times in 35 years under Marquess. The 1998 began the year 16-0-1... The top seven hitters in the Cardinal lineup are batting 333 or better  pacing the Cardinal's .330 team batting average... Centerfielder Jake Stewart laid out for a ball to rop Jacob Felts of extra bases and Texas of some runs in the sixth... Sunday's finale is at 1 p.m. with the end of the home stand scheduled for Tuesday against UC Davis at 5:30 p.m.
