SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Chris Hines scored 19 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer with 27 seconds left, and Utah defeated the Stanford 58-57 on Saturday to halt an eight-game losing streak.
The win provided a little salvation for the Utes (6-22, 3-13 Pac 12), who closed out the home portion of their inaugural Pac-12 campaign with a 6-9 record - their first losing mark at home in 38 years.
The game went down to the wire like the first meeting, which Stanford won 68-65 back on Jan. 12 at Maples Pavilion.
Freshman Chasson Randle had a chance to win it for Stanford but missed a long 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Randle led Stanford (19-10, 9-8 Pac-12) with 19 points, including five 3-pointers.
Jason Washburn added 17 points for the Utes, who won the game at the free throw line by making 17 of 21 attempts.
Dijon Farr added 12 points and six rebounds for Utah.

On the run where Utah took a first-half lead...
"Give them credit first, I thought they defended during that period of time and got some stops. We didn't execute as well and turned it over too much on that same run."
On his team's offense...
"It affects us on the offensive side of the ball. To not get points and then turn the ball over, it affects us. I thought we showed some maturity, we weren't hitting as well as we would have liked, but we tried to gut it out. We didn't have a great shooting night, but give them some credit."
On having a great game at Colorado, then losing tonight...
"It is difficult to explain. I think it has to do with some inconsistency from younger players. It starts in the backcourt, to have a freshman and sophomore. They are going to have nights that are up and down. Our experience on the perimeter isn't there and at times it shows."

General thoughts on the game...
"It was tremendous. We got off to a slow start and then the word 'resilient' keeps popping into my head. We just kept battling and it was really solid defense all the way around. Just short of some rebounding lulls, we did as nice of job defensively as I thought we did all year. And we made big shots when we needed to make them. Wins have come few and far between, so it feels awfully good."
Looking ahead to the Pac-12 Tournament...
"I still think there is a little gas left in our tank, and as I said a few weeks ago, I think we'd be a tough out in the Pac-12 Tournament, depending on the seeding and how all that takes place. I wouldn't want to play us right now. If we finish 11th or whatever the case might be, I wouldn't want to be the sixth place team that faces us first because I think we are better than our position. We picked up the production quite a bit here in the second half of conference season."
