Women Lead PCCSCs By Large Margin, Coed Sailors in 3rd on East Coast

HONOLULU / KING'S POINT, NY-- The Stanford women won 16 of a combined 24 races on day one of the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference women's championships, while the coed team, in its final regular season tuneup, is third at the two-day Admiral's Cup on the East Coast.

The A Division of Sally Mace and her crew of Katie Riklin and Helena Scutt won the first three races, and then another four in a row, finishing with 17 points. The B Division skippered by Molly McKinney took home wins in eight races for 17 points. Neither team finished lower than third, in any of the 12 races, against the other five programs.

The women lead the field with 34 points, en route to its eighth-straight conference title. Hawaii is second with 59 points.

The three-division coed sailors have scored a combined 248 points, 10 points out of second place. Mateo Vargas in his C Division individual laser tallied a division-low 52 points, finishing in the top-five among the 19 competitors nine times over 13 races.

The B Division skippered by Oliver Toole, secured 68 points, second-best in the division, finishing in the top-three in seven of the 14 races.

The A Division of Kevin Laube and Kelly Ortel, tallied 128 points, as a pentaly in the fouth race (for 19 points) and an 18th place finish, pushed them to eighth in the division.

Both races conclude Sunday. The coed conference championships are next weekend in Santa Barbara.
