FRESNO, Calif. - Stanford got back in the win column in a big way, routing Fresno State, 20-3, on Tuesday night. The Cardinal jumped on the Bulldogs early, scoring the first seven goals and never looked back. Catherine Swanson and Anna Boeri eached scored four goals to lead Stanford to the big win.
Stanford built a big early lead, carrying a 15-2 lead to the half. Anna Boeri recorded a first-half hat trick, but was just one of several goal scorers for the Cardinal. Swanson scored two of her four goals in the half, while Maria Fortino also had two goals before the break.
Stanford outshot the Bulldogs, 21-8 in the half and won 11 of 17 draw controls. The possessions Fresno State did have, Stanford forced the Bulldogs into turnovers, including eight in the half and 14 for the game.
The other goal scorers from the first half were Kyle Fraser, Hannah Farr, Emilie Boeri Rachel Hinds, Carolyn Bradley, Annie Anton, Emily Newstrom and Meredith Kalinowski. The goal for Kalinowski was the first of her career. Other firsts for Cardinal freshmen were defenders Chinna O'Suji and Kyra Vargas picking up their first ground balls for Stanford.
Stanford continued to dominate the second half as Swanson scored twice more for four goals on the game. Meanwhile, Hinds and Newstrom added second goals on the way to Stanford scoring a season-high 20 goals.
The Cardinal dominated all facets of the game, including goaltending where Lyndsey Munoz gave up a season-low three goals. Munoz made six saves and picked up her third win of the season.
Stanford will continue with MPSF play on Saturday when it travels to Denver to face the Pionners. Denver is off to an 8-1 start, including 2-0 in the MPSF and the game will have conference title implications. First draw is set for noon on Saturday, April 7.
