SALT LAKE CITY-- Brett Mooneyham (7-4) struck out 10 and combined with Dean McArdle on a five-hitter, as visiting No. 12-ranked Stanford (35-14, 16-10 Pac-12) defeated Utah (14-37, 7-22 Pac-12) 8-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Brian Ragira drove in three with his fourth home run of the season and a sacrifice fly. Stephen Piscotty added two hits and three runs. Eric Smith went 3-for-4.
The Cardinal lefthander gave up one run on four hits over 8.1 innings, striking out his tenth batter prior to McArdle relieving him in the ninth. Mooneyham struck out double digits for the second-time this season and first since a career-best 13 at Fresno State in his third start of the year.
Mooneyham had a one-hitter through the first six innings, at one point, retiring eight in a row. Three more singles and a run came in the seventh, as Utah scored its first run of the weekend to make it 6-1.

Ragira got the scoring started in the first with an RBI double, before a Kenny Diekroeger sacrifice fly made it 2-0 in the second. A wild pitch followed by a sacrifice fly from Jake Stewart in the fourth made it 4-0.
Ragira chased starter Joe Pond from the game in the fifth, following a two-run homer to the opposite field, to right, to make it 6-0.
Pond gave up the first six runs on eight hits through 4.0-plus innings.
NOTES: With 7.0 shutout innings last week, and 6.0 scoreless this week, Mooneyham tossed 13.0 scoreless innings over two starts... Stanford was trying to have its first back-to-back shutouts since 2005... it was the ninth time this season Mooneyham had struck out at least seven in a contest... Sunday's game is at 11:30 a.m. PT with the final regular season road game at Santa Clara on Tuesday. The Cardinal return home next weekend to host Cal in the regular season series finale,
