STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford outfielder Cassadra Roulund talks about the coaching and support staff in this edition of her blog. The sophomore will be blogging all season long to give Cardinal fans a behind-the-scenes look at the team.
Hello Internet world!
I decided that this week's blog would be a little different. Of course, I'm still going to share some inside scoop on Stanford softball, but I thought it would be interesting to share a different perspective of a very important part of our program... the administration and coaches!
I absolutely love every single person on our team. Everyone is unique and crazy in her own way, but the same can be said for our coaching staff. So here's the rundown on Stanford softball's superstar staff:
Coach Rittman: Throughout my time spent here, I have been putting together little tidbits of information about Coach and have come to the conclusion that he's a pretty cool person - a trendsetter, if you will. He's lived all over the place and due to this, his acquired accent is quite a mix of many things, but sounds like a lazy southern drawl. (Also, his favorite words might just be "get off the grass!" - he does love his field).
Coach A: Coach A is incredibly modest when she has every right to be in-your-face about how good she was. I've heard stories about how she has hit balls further than anyone has ever seen. Her son, Mikey, is also the cutest little baby ever!
Coach Henderson: She is an incredible pitcher. Seriously. The ball literally jumps or drops or rises in ways that seem to defy physics. She would never boast about these skills though, so I am doing it for her. (I mean, she does have a gold medal to prove it).
Letty: Letty is our volunteer assistant coach and is extremely funny and altogether fun to be around. She comes up with the best nicknames and recommends the best dance party songs. We are all SO glad that she's back this year!
Brandon: Dr. Marcello, the Director of Sports Performance, knows something about everything. He doesn't just know a little bit about everything though, he knows a lot. I have yet to find a question that he does not know the answer to.
Jesse: The athletic training room would not be the same without Jesse. But then again, neither would the field. Jesse is always there for us, whether it be for a Band-Aid, a concussion test, or to shag balls during BP. He's currently working on perfecting his drop ball.
Regina: I'm not entirely sure of the full extent of Regina's job (Sports Information Director), but I do know that Stanford softball would not be the same without her. We have so much to thank her for like our Twitter, Facebook and website. Side Note- she also has really pretty hair.
Joel: We have Joel and his crew to thank for our beautiful field and the upkeep of our grass. He also always knows how to perfectly tighten our gloves and has a knack for finding our necklaces, earrings, and passports we lose on the field.
So there you have it - a little glimpse of the other side of Stanford softball.
On the softball end of it, we had a great week here at home! We won all six of our games and didn't allow any runs to score the entire week. It's absolutely incredible to watch our team come together and witness all of our hard working pay off.
Inspirational Quote of the Week: "Winning means you're willing to go longer, work harder, and give more than anyone else." - Vince Lombardi
Standout Teammate of the Week: Hanna Winter! All I can say is WOW, she is a superstar. She made quite an incredible catch against UC Davis this weekend. She looked like a flying squirrel, or something equally as awkward, yet graceful. She defied gravity. That's for sure.
Rock on!
