At Stanford: Coming off a frustrating 2002 campaign, Chris Lewis is healthy and ready to compete for the starting quarterback spot in 2003 ... A fifth-year senior, Lewis had an injury plagued season a year ago that limited his playing time to just five games ... He had off-season surgery to repair the rotator cuff on his right shoulder... He has started 12 games and played in 21 for the Cardinal the past three years and his numbers are nearing the school's all-time top-10 list in every passing category ... He is already tied for ninth all-time with 25 career touchdown passes ... He should enter the top-10 in passing attempts, pass completions, yards passing and total offense if he wins the starting quarterback job in '03 ... For his career, he has completed 250-of-506 for 3,168 yards ... Has shown a knack for heroics with game-winning touchdown passes against Texas and USC in 2000 ... Has also shown he can beat the best with wins over No. 4 Oregon and No. 5 UCLA in 2001 ... Both of the Cardinal's wins in 2002 came with Lewis as the starting quarterback ... A healthy and effective Chris Lewis will be a key factor in Stanford's offensive success in 2003.

The 2002 Season: Chris entered the season ready to assume his spot as one of the best quarterbacks in the Pac-10, but after missing the season opener due to a minor NCAA violation and suffering with a shoulder injury throughout the season, he was limited to just five games ... He started game Nos. 2-6 vs. San Jose State, Arizona State, Notre Dame, Washington State and Arizona and did not play the rest of the season ... He wound up completing 68-of-139 passes for 712 yards and five touchdowns ... His best two games both resulted in Cardinal wins ... He was 12-of-22 for 182 yards and two touchdowns in the Cardinal's first win of the year over San Jose State ... He went 14-for-27 with one touchdown on 126 yards passing in Stanford's 16-6 win over Arizona ... Posted a season high 209 yards passing at Notre Dame on 20-of-42.

The 2001 Season: While Chris was officially listed as the back up quarterback, he received significant playing time in both a reserve and starting role and was impressive when called upon to lead the Cardinal offense ... He played in nine games (bowl game stats do not count towards season and career totals) and started four ... He continued to improve and mature as a quality Pac-10 quarterback ... His play during Randy Fasani's absence was one of the keys to Stanford's success in 2001 ... With Fasani out for four-and-a-half games with a knee injury, Lewis stepped in and guided the Cardinal to a come-from-behind win at No. 5 Oregon and a 3-1 record as the starting quarterback ... He completed 90-of-163 passes for 1,277 yards, 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions for the season ... His 135.5 pass efficiency rating ranked him fourth in the Pac-10 and 34th in the nation ... He played the entire second half against Oregon on October 20 and started the next four vs. UCLA, Washington, Arizona and California ... In those games, he completed 84-of-150 passes for 1,229 yards and 12 touchdowns ... Against Oregon, Lewis engineered a 21-point fourth quarter that saw the Cardinal erase a 42-28 deficit to win 49-42 ... He completed 12-of-26 for 189 yards and two TDs in that game ... The next week against No. 4 UCLA, Lewis was an efficient 20-of-29 for 250 yards and three touchdowns ... The following week at No. 10 Washington, Lewis completed 19-of-34 for 231 yards in a hard-fought 42-28 loss to the Huskies ... He came back to beat Arizona in Tucson the next week as he led the Cardinal to a 51-37 win ... He threw for three touchdowns and 169 yards on a 13-of-23 effort against the Wildcats ... In Stanford's 35-28 Big Game win over Cal, he threw for a career-high 390 yards and four TDs ... Did not play in the final two games of the season vs. Notre Dame and San Jose State after Fasani returned from his injury ... In the 2001 Seattle Bowl, Lewis came on to replace Fasani late in the third quarter in a game the Cardinal trailed 17-6 ... He promptly led Stanford on its only touchdown drive of the game, a 10-play, 82-yard march that culminated in a four-yard touchdown pass to Teyo Johnson ... Lewis then hit Ryan Wells on a two-point conversion to bring the Cardinal within three at 17-14 ... For the game, he completed 6-of-13 for 110 yards and one touchdown and was named Stanford's Player of the Game ... Named Honorable Mention Academic All-Pac-10.

The 2000 Season: In his first season after redshirting in '99, he was not only the team's backup quarterback for eight games, but a starter in the other three and hero in two games as he came off the bench to throw game-winning touchdowns in the final moments vs. Texas and USC ... His starts came in games four, five and six vs. Arizona, at Notre Dame and at Oregon State ... He threw for 1,179 yards and eight touchdowns while completing 92-of-204 ... He replaced Randy Fasani in the first quarter vs. No. 5 Texas and proceeded to throw for 214 yards and three touchdowns ... He threw the game-winning touchdown to DeRonnie Pitts with 1:12 to play to give Stanford a 27-24 upset win ... He came off the bench in the final moments vs. USC and threw a game-winning 20-yard TD pass to Jamien McCullum on the game's final play, giving the Cardinal a 32-30 victory ... Against UCLA, he played the entire second half and almost led the Cardinal to another come-from-behind win ... He passed for 204 yards and two touchdowns against the Bruins in a 37-35 loss ... As a reserve, he threw for 575 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions in eight games ... Passed for a season-high of 242 yards and two touchdowns at Notre Dame ...
