As a Junior in 1999 - Selected as a 1999 Baseball America second team Preseason All-American...Spent most of his time as the team's starter in center field after playing primarily in left field as a sophomore...Honorable mention Pacific-10 All-Academic...Finished the campaign with a .305 batting average, six homers and 30 RBI in 52 games and 47 starts...Had an excellent post-season, going 10-for-28 (.357) and collecting hits in seven of the eight games he played in...Also had a pair of post-season homers (both in the College World Series) and six RBI...Was 4-for-10 (.400) in the NCAA Regional...Posted identical eight-game hitting streaks from February 5-17 and May 20-June 14...Hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games and 36 of 52 games overall...Had 17 multiple-hit and nine multiple-RBI contests...Went 4-for-5 in 8-6 loss to Fresno State on January 30, equaling a career-high for hits...Hit his first homer of the season and drove in three runs in 11-1 win over Arizona State on March 5...Was 3-for-4 with a double, homer and two RBI in 10-5 victory over Oregon State on May 1...Had two hits and two RBI in 7-4 victory over Nevada in NCAA Regional title game on May 30...In game two of the NCAA Super Regional (5-3 Stanford victory), went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI triple in the seventh inning that helped put the game away...Had two hits, a homer and two RBI in season finale versus Florida State at College World Series.
As a Sophomore in 1998 - Starting left fielder...Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 Southern Division...Second team Pac-10 Southern Division All-Academic...Hit .308 with 14 homers and 51 RBI...Stanford leadoff man hit a home run in the Cardinal half of the first inning on five different occasions...Had 19 multi-hit and 13 multi-RBI games...Became the first Stanford player to hit for the cycle since 1992 (Steve Solomon vs. Cal) when he accomplished the feat at UCLA on February 22...Was 4-for-6 with four runs scored and four RBI in that contest...Had a career-best 14-game hitting streak from April 10-May 2...Tripled, doubled, scored three runs and drove in two in an 11-inning 12-10 win at Fresno State on January 30...The next day (February 1) scored four times in a 16-9 win at Fresno State...Hit game-winning two-run home run in the top of the 11th of 6-5 win at San Jose State on March 11...Went 3-for-4 with four RBI in 13-5 loss at Nevada on March 26...Had game-winning single in bottom of ninth of 4-3 win over California on April 24...Homered, drove in three runs and scored three runs in 19-1 NCAA West Regional victory over Minnesota on May 22.
