1997-98 Season (Freshman): A reserve point-guard who played in all 35 games, a freshman school record ... Performed more like a veteran as the season progressed ... Was instrumental in Stanford's 84-81 victory at UCLA (2/12/98) when he ran the offense with the precision of a veteran, playing 19 minutes (three rebounds, two assists) while maintaining the team's lead and holding off UCLA's fierce rally late in the first half ... Scored nine points in 13 minutes of play against Washington (2/19/98) ... Tallied seven points and four assists in eleven minutes of play against UCLA (1/17/98) at Maples Pavilion ... Dished out 49 assists for the season, along with collecting eleven steals.
High School: Missed several games in his senior season at Long Beach Poly due to a thigh injury ... During his junior season, averaged 18 points, six assists and six rebounds per game as Long Beach Poly chalked up a 20-9 record, finished second in the Moore League and advanced to the CIF playoffs ... Earned all-CIF, all-league, and team MVP honors ... A high honorable mention All-American by Street & Smith's and named to the Long Beach Press-Telegram's "Best of the West" list ... Cardinal Chronicle: Michael's father, Glenn, was an All-American guard at Long Beach State from 1971-74 and played for the Boston Celtics (1974-75) for three years after being drafted by them in the first round ... Glenn, the director of intramurals at Long Beach State and an assistant coach with the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks, took Michael to the 1997 NCAA Final Four as a high school graduation present ...
