Cardinal Tied for First at Team Race Nationals

May 25, 2013

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Stanford finished in a three-way tie for first place through the first day of the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Team Race National Championship. The Cardinal was an impressive 8-1 to find itself knotted with Brown and Yale.

Stanford's only loss came against Yale in its final race of the day.

With two more days to go in the team championship regatta, Stanford will first look to win its last four races of round one. After all 91 races have been completed in the first round, only four teams will advance. A national champion will be crowned on May 27.

Skippers Kevin Laube, Oliver Toole and Kieran Chung worked in collaboration with crews Kelly Ortel, Katie Riklin, Haley Kirk and Yuri Namikawa to win their first eight outings on the day.

The Cardinal pulled out wins against Washington, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Hawaii, Hobart and William Smith, Navy, Roger Williams and St. Mary's.

Stanford will go head-to-head with Boston College, College of Charleston, Brown and Georgetown on Sunday with hopes of advancing to the final four.
