Stanford 14th at Danmark Trophy

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford sailing finished 14th at the Danmark Trophy regatta this weekend in New London, Conn.

The Cardinal’s division-A and division-B teams combined for 231 points to place 14th of 20 teams.

Skipper Antoine Screve and crew Mary Vangelos captured third place in division-A with a score of 81. They had five top-five finishes, six top-ten finishes and placed first in two of ten races. Screve and Vangelos finished behind Yale (43) and College of Charleston (79).

Sophomore skipper Axel Sly paired with freshman John Cannistraro to take 18th in the division-B field with 150 points.

Stanford was also represented at the U.S. Team Racing Championships at Newport Harbor, Calif., where Team Jet Lag placed third and Bear Flag Alliance finished eighth. Participants included: Mateo Vargas, Tally Buckstaff, Kevin Laube, Nikki Obel, Oliver Toole, Kelly Ortel, Kieran Chung, Yuri Namikawa and assistant coach Clinton Hayes.

The Cardinal will head to the Navy Fall women’s regatta in Annapolis, Md., and the Moody Trophy regatta in Wakefield, R.I., this coming weekend.
