• Stanford improves to 6-1 all-time against Cal Poly with Friday night’s 86-51 win. Tonight’s meeting was the first between the two schools since Dec. 12, 1980 (78-72 Stanford win).
• Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer won her 896th career game, moving her to just four wins away from becoming just the fifth women’s basketball head coach to reach 900 wins. Her career record after Friday is now 896-204 (.815). Friday night was also the 1,100th game of her collegiate head-coaching career.
• Senior forward Chiney Ogwumike set a new career high with 36 points, going 15-for-19 from the field and 6-for-8 from the free-throw line. Her previous career high was 32 points at Oregon State on Feb. 3, 2013.
• Chiney Ogwumike also posted her 61st-career double-double and third in as many games this season as she grabbed 11 rebounds to go with her 36 points.
• Redshirt senior forward Mikaela Ruef set a new career high with 14 rebounds, besting her original mark of 13 set Dec. 15, 2012 against Pacific. She also matched her career best of seven assists tonight, finishing the game with a line of nine points, 14 rebounds and seven assists.
• Freshmen forwards Erica McCall and Kailee Johnson each set season highs with eight and seven points, respectively.
• Freshman guard Lili Thompson made her first collegiate start, finishing with six points and five assists in 20 minutes of action.
• Stanford’s 57.1 percent shooting mark from the field (36-for-63) was the team’s highest this season, and the second time so far that it has made over half its shots in a game. The Cardinal shot 55.6 percent (30-for-54) in the season opener at Boston College on Nov. 9.
• Stanford’s 47 rebounds were also a season high, and the third time in as many games that the Cardinal has pulled down at least 40 rebounds (44 at Boston College, 42 at Connecticut).
• Stanford set a new season high with 27 assists.
• Chiney Ogwumike upped her career scoring total to 1,852 points, keeping her in ninth place on the Stanford list, 89 points behind Kayla Pedersen, who is eight with 1,941 points. Ogwumike also upped her career rebounding total to 1,159, keeping her fourth on Stanford’s all-time list, 67 behind older sister Nnemkadi Ogwumike’s third-place figure of 1,226.
• All five of Stanford’s starters scored at least six points Friday night. Chiney Ogwumike led with 36, Mikaela Ruef scored nine, Kailee Johnson seven while Amber Orrange and Lili Thompson had six apiece.
