STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 13 Stanford women’s lacrosse team completes a three-game season-opening homestand against Vanderbilt on Sunday in a noon contest at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. The Cardinal is 2-0 and the visiting Commodores are 2-2, having already equaled their victory total of last season.

Week in Review: Stanford got a career-high four goals from sophomore Meg Lentz and led wire-to-wire in a 14-10 victory over Harvard on Saturday. Senior goalie Lyndsey Munoz had four ground balls and eight saves in leading the defensive effort. The Cardinal built leads of 4-0 and 12-4 before Harvard closed the gap down the stretch. The victory followed a season-opening 11-9 triumph over Ohio State.
Sunday’s Opponent, Vanderbilt: The Commodores bounced back from a 2-14 season to win two of their first three, beating Kennesaw State and Liberty. On Saturday, Vanderbilt lost to No. 1 North Carolina 22-8. Following the Stanford game, Vanderbilt continues the trip at Denver on Wednesday before opening American Lacrosse Conference play on March 15 against Penn State. Sophomore Mallory Schonk leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and 9 assists.
The Vanderbilt Series: This will be the 11th meeting between the two. Last year, Kyle Fraser and Rachel Ozer scored two goals apiece to lead Stanford to a 15-4 road victory. This marks the fifth consecutive year of the series, with Stanford winning three of four in that stretch. Stanford is 4-1 in the series at home.
The Streak: Hannah Farr’s unassisted goal late in the first half against Harvard extended her goal-scoring streak to 11 games. Farr, a junior, scored twice in the opener against Ohio State and has scored in every game since April 14, 2013, when she began her streak against Northwestern. She has scored 22 goals in that stretch.
Closing In: With 72 goals in 56 games, Rachel Ozer is within five of cracking Stanford’s Top 15 list in career goal scorers. Ozer had a team-leading 48 last year and opened this season with four against Ohio State, before adding a goal against Harvard.
Freshman impact: Two freshmen have started both games this season: Kelsey Murray in attack and Alex Poplawski in midfield. Murray scored her first collegiate goal against Harvard and has three ground balls and has caused three turnovers. Poplawski has scored in each game and has a ground ball and caused one turnover.
On the Horizon: Stanford embarks on a three-game road trip that begins with a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener at Fresno State on March 5, before heading east. Stanford plays at No. 15 Towson on March 7 and No. 14 Georgetown on March 9. After that, Stanford will take a break from competition for Dead Week and finals and resume play on March 22 against visiting Saint Mary’s in an MPSF contest.
