Cardinal to C Semifinal

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Stanford men’s rowing team had four races on Friday at the IRA Championships resulting in a placement in the C semifinal for the varsity eight and second varsity eight.

“Today was tough, but there is learning to be had and I am fully confident that our guys will respond positively to adversity,” said head coach Craig Amerkhanian. “We are at the national championships and everyone is trying to win. The knowledge we gain from these lessons will impact future seasons.”

The varsity eight started the day racing in heat #4 with five ranked teams, including No. 4 Brown and No. 5 Princeton. The Cardinal finished in fourth place with a time of 5:49.136, three seconds back from Brown for the second spot. The finish placed the Cardinal in the afternoon repechage.

Stanford held a lead for over half the race in the repechage, but No. 10 Wisconsin was able to overtake them in the final 750 meters to win the race. The Cardinal took second with a time of 5:38.599.

The varsity eight will compete in the C semifinal on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. on Lake Mercer. Stanford will go up against Dartmouth, Oregon State, Penn, Drexel and Holy Cross.
