CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State needed only five innings to dispatch Stanford, 10-0, Saturday at the Oregon State Softball Complex. The Cardinal returned to action after a bye week that included final exams, totaling only two hits in its Pac-12 Conference opener.
Stanford fell to 14-15 overall and 0-1 in league play with Oregon State bumping ahead to 20-9 and 1-3 against conference foes.
The series continues Sunday at 4 p.m. (PT).
In the game’s first at-bat, Hanna Winter notched an infield single for the visitors. One frame later, Cassandra Roulund secured another single, and the Cardinal went hitless for the remainder of the contest.
The Cardinal committed four errors which led to six unearned runs. Starter Haley Snyder (8-8) lasted 2.2 innings and gave up nine runs – three earned – on six hits with a strikeout. Kylie Sorenson stepped in for the final 1.1 innings and surrendered one earned run on two hits.
Dani Gilmore belted a two-run homer in the first and the Beavers added two more in the second while leaving a trio on base.
Oregon State added five runs on four hits in the third.
Beverly Miller (12-6) earned the complete-game win, scattering a pair of hits with one strikeout. Miller faced 18 batters and needed only 50 pitches to get through the contest.
