STANFORD, Calif. -- The Stanford baseball team used four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday evening to rally past San Francisco, 5-3, at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond. The Cardinal snaps a three-game losing streak with its fourth straight nonconference midweek win.

Stanford (11-14) used the game to get seven pitchers work, none throwing more than two innings. Freshman lefty Andrew Summerville (1-0) picked up his first career win by stranding two base runners with two big strikeouts in the seventh and Gabe Cramer earned his first career save by keep the Dons hitless for the final two innings and punching out four.

San Francisco (11-18) was in the lead or tied until the fateful seventh when the Cardinal scored four runs on just one hit. After USF scored twice in the top half to take a 3-1 advantage, Sheldon Lee came in and walked the first two batters and Jack Klein laid down a sac bunt. Brock Larson relieved Lee to face pinch hitter Jesse Kuet, who singled home Matt Winaker. Tommy Edman reached on a booted grounder to the third baseman that tied the game and Quinn Brodey scored all the way from second on a wild pitch to give Stanford its first lead. Drew Jackson added an insurance run on a sacrifice fly to right field.

Winaker and Alex Dunlap were the only two players in the game with multiple hits, each coming up with a single and a double. Winaker also tied Edman for the Cardinal’s lead in multi-hit games with 10, as Stanford outhit USF, 8-5.

Stanford answered a third-inning USF run with a fifth inning tally to tie the game. Klein roped a single through the right side to send Winaker home. Winaker, who increased his team leading batting average to .326, had doubled to open the inning.

USF pulled ahead in the seventh on three straight sac bunts, two of which were misplayed Stanford. Aaron Ping’s RBI double, the first hit of his season, started the rally. After incorrect decision to attempt to get the lead runner on two straight sacrifices the score was 3-1.

The Dons also used seven pitchers and none for more than six outs.

Washington comes to Stanford Thursday-Sunday for a three-game set on Pac-12 Networks. Thursday’s opener is set for 7:00 p.m. PT. Brett Hanewich will face the Huskies’ Noah Bremer.
