Stanford Signs Stanback

STANFORD, Calif. – Trevor Stanback, regarded as one of the highest-rated prospects on the West Coast, has signed a National Letter of Intent with Stanford, Anne and Tony Joseph Director of Men's Basketball Johnny Dawkins announced on Thursday.

“This was a smaller scholarship class for us this year, but we could not be more excited about the young man that signed with us,” Dawkins said. “We love playing with size and length, and Trevor will certainly give us that. We have been following his progress for a long time and have greatly enjoyed getting to know him and his family. He is a lefty that is long and athletic and can impact the game on both ends.  He can really alter and block shots as well as run the court. Trevor has great potential on the offensive end, and we look forward to developing it. We are excited to follow him throughout his senior year at Maranatha before getting him here this summer.”

Stanback, a 6-10, 220-pound power forward from Maranatha High School in Pasadena, Calif., is a consensus four-star prospect by the major recruiting services. He ranks as the 13th-best power forward in the nation by Scout.com and 68th-best prospect overall. A member of the Rivals100 for the Class of 2016, the group ranks him as the 88th-best prospect nationally. Scout.com ranks the power forward as the third-best prospect in the state of California, while ESPN’s recruiting service has him as the ninth-best prospect in the Golden State. He is rated the 18th-best power forward in the nation by 247Sports.

Stanback, who carries a 4.0 cumulative grade point average, enrolled at Maranatha High School prior to his junior season after attending Chaminade College Prep his first two years. A center at Maranatha, Stanback was limited to eight games with an injury during the 2014-15 season, averaging 6.1 points and 3.0 blocks per game in his first year with the school. He returned for the playoffs, where he helped lead the Minutemen to the Division 4A title this past season. In Maranatha’s CIF Southern Section Division 4A championship game against Campbell Hall, Stanback posted 13 rebounds and five blocks.

As a sophomore at Chaminade, Stanback guided the Eagles to the 2014 Division III state championship. He averaged 9.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game as a sophomore in 2014, and 9.1 points, 10.4 rebounds and 5.0 blocks as a freshman in 2013 for the Eagles.

Stanback’s sister, Devin, is a sophomore on the Pepperdine women’s basketball team. His older brother, Chace, played one season at UCLA (2007-08) and three years at UNLV (2010-12).
