Awards Show Honorees

ATLANTA - Sophomore running back Christian McCaffrey and senior guard Joshua Garnett received national honors Thursday night at the Home Depot College Football Awards dinner held at the College Football Hall of Fame.

Garnett became the school’s first winner of the Outland Trophy, presented to the most outstanding interior lineman in the country. A product of Puyallup, Washington, he was a dominant run blocker and pass protector. Garnett spearheaded an offensive line that helped McCaffrey rush for a school-record 1,847 yards, the second-most in the country. A team captain, Garnett has 104 pancakes in 13 games this year and has helped Stanford lead the nation in time of possession.

Garnett was also a Walter Camp All-America first team honoree, while McCaffrey received a pair of second team awards as a running back and kick returner.

One of three finalists for the Heisman Trophy, McCaffrey was a finalist for the Walter Camp Award and Maxwell Award as the college player of the year, as well as the Doak Walker Award presented to the nation’s premier running back. McCaffrey produced one of the finest seasons in college football history by amassing an FBS-record 3,496 all-purpose yards, breaking a long-standing mark set by Barry Sanders of Oklahoma State in 1988.

On Wednesday, McCaffrey was named the winner of the Paul Hornung Award, given to the most versatile player in college football. The Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year, McCaffrey was MVP of the Pac-12 Championship Game against USC, propelling the Cardinal to a 41-22 victory with a school-record 461 all-purpose yards (207 rushing, 105 receiving and 120 in kickoff returns and 29 in punt returns). He accounted for touchdowns rushing, receiving and passing.

With one game remaining against Iowa in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, McCaffrey has accounted for eight touchdowns rushing, four receiving, one on a kickoff return and has thrown for two. He is the only player in FBS to lead his team in rushing and receiving yards.

The 102nd Rose Bowl Game will be televised nationally on ESPN beginning at 1:30 p.m. PT.

Ticket information can be found on Stanford's Bowl Central page.
