Bashti to Spain with U-19 MNT

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford sophomore Amir Bashti was one of 22 players called in by U.S. Under-19 Men's National Team head coach Brad Friedel for the 33rd International U-20 Men's COTIF Tournament, set to take place July 20 - August 5 in Valencia, Spain.
 
Bashti is a veteran of the U.S. system and most recently played with the U-20s at the Dallas Cup in late March. He was also part of a U-20 January training camp in Miami, Florida, at which the U.S. won two matches against local club teams and traveled with the to Serbia in September 2015 for the Stevan Vilotic-Cele Tournament.
 
The U-19's will return to Spain for the first time since competing in the Copa del Atlantico Tournament in Las Palmas in early February. The USA will face Venezuela on July 26, Mauritania on July 28, Spain on July 29 and finish group play against Bahrain on August 1.
 
Bashti appeared in 21 matches in his freshman season, making one start, scoring four goals and adding two assists. He scored twice off the bench to spur Stanford to a 3-1 victory over Santa Clara in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in what was the first multi-goal game for a Stanford player in the postseason since Roger Levesque's brace on Nov. 30, 2001 in a 3-1 win over Portland.

Bashti earned his first career point assisting on Jordan Morris' winner in the 100th minute against Davidson (September 20) and scored his first career goals in back-to-back matches with Oregon State (October 11) and UCLA (October 16).
 
The San Jose Earthquakes Academy product is also a veteran of three U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team camps with stops in Bosnia & Herzegovina (April 2015), Marbella, Spain (December 2014) and Carson, California (October 2014).
 
The 2015 NCAA champion Cardinal begins its 2016 regular-season campaign at home on Friday, August 26 (5 p.m.) against Penn State in a match televised on the Pac-12 Network.
