STANFORD, Calif. - No. 11 Stanford continues its three-game homestand playing host to a pair of nonconference opponents this weekend.

The Cardinal (0-1) will open the weekend against No. 10 Michigan on Friday at 2 p.m. (PT), then takes on Kent State on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Stanford opened up it's 2016 season with a gritty hard-fought 2-1 loss to No. 3 UConn last Friday. The Cardinal fended off seven penalty corners to hold the score at 1-1 until the eight penalty corner made the difference for the Huskies with only 1:40 remaining in the game. Jessica Welch was the offensive star and Cardinal of the game as she blasted a penalty corner into the goal in her first collegiate game and career shot. Kelsey Bing also posted five saves in the outing to showcase a tough Cardinal defense.

Varsity Spells Victory
• Most teams like to play at home in the comfy confines of their own stadium. The Cardinal LOVES Varsity Turf. Under head coach Tara Danielson, Stanford has a home record of 46-10 - an incredible 82% winning percentage. As for home openers? Danielson is 4-3 - including last year's 2-1 loss to reigning NCAA Champion Syracuse in OT. The Cardinal's response? A 3-2 win in OT over No. 5 Duke... at home.
...and Out Come the Wolves
• The Cardinal have faced off with the Wolverines ten times in its history, with Michigan holding a seven wins to Stanford's three. The Cardinal held a three game winning streak from 2011-2014 that UM snapped last year with a 1-0 win in Evanston, Ill. Under Danielson the Cardinal is 3-1 against the Wolverines.

Flashin' Some Gold
• The Cardinal have taken on the Kent State Golden Flashes five times in program history and hold a 3-2 all-time record against them. Danielson? Undefeated with a 2-0 record and wins in 2010 and 2015.

Best in the West
• While the argument exists that most of the NCAA's powerhouse programs are in the east - no one can deny that Stanford is the powerhouse of the west. The Cardinal has made more NCAA
tournament appearances than any other program in the west - while also making consistent appearances on the Penn Monto/NFHCA Preseason Poll... as the sole west coast team.

In addition, Stanford was selected for the second consecutive year as favorites in the America East West Division.

Coaching Milestones
• Tara Danielson's tenure on the farm has showcased success nearly unparalleled in Stanford Field Hockey. In just six seasons she has become the second winningest coach in program history - second behind only Sheryl Johnson, who led the program for 18 years to 165 wins. It took Johnson 13 years to get her 100th win at Stanford... Danielson currently sits at 96 wins... in
SIX years.

This year Danielson will lead the Cardinal to her 100th career win at Stanford - at least if history tells us anything - Danielson has never posted a win total of less than 13 in a se ason in her career at Stanford.

Game of Numbers
• 12 - Consecutive games that the Cardinal have allowed two or less goals (last was UConn 10/25/16)
• 6 - Newcomers on the roster that have played in every game
• 46-10 - Career record in home matches under Danielson
