Two Advance to Semis

LAS VEGAS - Joey McKenna (3-0) and Jim Wilson (4-0) have advanced to the semifinals of the 2016 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, while three other Cardinal are still alive in the consolation brackets.

McKenna, the top seed in the tournament at 141 pounds, recorded a technical fall over Binghamton's Dylan Caruana, 17-2 in 4:38, in the opening round. He then tallied a 6-3 decision over Cole Martin of Wisconsin to reach the quarterfinals. There, he recorded a fall in 1:56 over Northern Colorado's Timmy Box to move on to the semifinals, where he will take on No. 4 seed Logan Everett on Saturday. McKenna, who is ranked No. 2 in the nation, moves to 11-0 on the season and will be pitted against Everett for the second time in two weeks as he won the Roadrunner Open (Nov. 20) with a 2-1 decision over Everett.

Wilson opened the tournament with a fall over Kent State's Jairod James in a crazy seven-overtime match. The official time of the fall was 11:46. Wilson, who is No. 13 nationally at 174 pounds, then posted three straight decisions to reach the semifinals. He is now 11-1 on the year and will face top-seed Brian Realbuto (Cornell) on Saturday.

No. 7 Connor Schram (125 pounds), No. 12 Keaton Subjeck (165 pounds) and No. 10 Nathan Butler (285 pounds) all reached the quarterfinals on Friday, but fell into the consolation bracket and will continue to wrestle on Saturday.

After the first day of competition, Stanford is in 10th-place as a team with 37.5 points. Ohio State has 73 points to lead the field, followed by Virginia Tech (71) and Minnesota (61.5).
