LOS ANGELES – Stanford scored a season-high 49.300 on vault but had a tough day overall, dropping a 198.125-194.175 decision at UCLA on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinal (5-6, 2-2 Pac-12) was a bit shorthanded with junior All-American, Elizabeth Price, out of the lineup due to injury. Despite missing their co-captain, Stanford had multiple individual standout performances.
Aleeza Yu tied for second on vault with a career-high 9.925. Kaylee Cole and Danielle McNair tied for fifth in the event with scores of 9.875. Ashley Tai scored a career-best 9.850 in the event to tie for eighth.
Rachel Daum tied her season best on floor with a 9.850 to tie for fifth.
The tough day was compounded by a season-best performance by the Bruins (4-1, 3-0 Pac-12).
Stanford got off to a tough start on bars with only five gymnasts in the lineup and two gymnasts missing their routines. Danielle McNair paced the team with a 9.825 to finish sixth.
The Cardinal rebounded nicely on vault with all six gymnasts scoring 9.750 or higher. Yu (9.925) paced Stanford and was followed by Danielle McNair (9.875) and Cole (9.875). Tai (9.850) and Daum (9.775) also contributed scores.
The Cardinal ran into more trouble on floor with three gymnasts missing their routines. Daum provided the highlight for Stanford, scoring 9.850 to tie for fifth.
Stanford continued to battle and finished strong on beam with all six gymnasts hitting their routines, including five scores of 9.750 or better. Tai led the way with a 9.800 and was followed by Daum and Danielle McNair with scores of 9.775.
The Cardinal will look to get back on track next Saturday when it travels to Arizona State at Noon (PT).
