LA QUINTA, Calif. - Isaiah Salinda and Franklin Huang shelved top-10 individual finishes while the Stanford men's golf team placed fourth at The Prestige at PGA West with rounds of 281-289-291 (+9). The three-day event at the par-71 Greg Norman Course concluded Wednesday.
Salinda and Huang tied for sixth at 3-under overall. It was the best-ever collegiate finish for Salinda (69-71-70), a sophomore from South San Francisco, California. His 2-under 69 on Monday came with five birdies and one eagle.
Huang (67-69-74) was in contention for medalist honors before dropping four spots from his standing after 36 holes.
Maverick McNealy opened with a 68 and finished with rounds of 74-72, 1-over for 54 holes. He tied for 18th. He was 4-under on the back nine through three rounds.
Viraat Badhwar (71-74-74) tied for 30th at 6-over, Jeffrey Swegle (71-77-72) tied for 32nd at 7-over and Brandon Wu recovered from an opening-round 78 to tie for 39th at 8-over.
Christopher Meyers (+13) tied for 59th, Bradley Knox (+14) tied for 61st and Dakota McNealy (+32) was 78th.
LSU (E) won the tournament co-hosted by the Cardinal, with Arizona State's Jared duToit (-9) claiming medalist honors.
Stanford matched Pepperdine at 3-under through 18 holes for first among the 13-team field. It was then that Huang (-4) tied for the lead among individuals, one shot clear of McNealy and two ahead of Salinda.
The Cardinal then dipped into second following a 5-over 289 during Tuesday's round, and LSU rallied to the top spot after its 6-under 278.
Stanford returns to the course March 6-8 when it travels to Las Vegas for the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters.
