Stanford Routs Red Foxes

Scoresheet Opens in a new window

TEMPE, Ariz. – Stanford had a season-high 12 different goal scorers and the No. 2 Cardinal wrapped up its nonconference schedule with a 19-1 victory over No. 23 Marist at the ASU Invitational on Sunday.

Jamie Neushul led the charge for Stanford (14-1), scoring four for the second time this season, while Kat Klass, Jordan Raney, Hannah Shabb and Maggie Steffens also had multi-goal efforts for the Cardinal. Steffens' goal just before the end of the first quarter was the 200th of her career. The two-time Olympic MVP is the fifth Stanford player to reach the mark.

Stanford controlled from the start, scoring 16 straight before Marist was finally able to put one in over 21 minutes into the game. Gabby Stone played the first half in the cage for the Cardinal and made two saves. Julia Hermann made two saves in her two quarters of work.

Senior captains Neushul and Steffens each scored twice in the first quarter as Stanford hung eight goals on the Red Foxes. Neushul went back-to-back to open the morning and was followed with goals from Klass, Steffens, Shannon Cleary, Shabb and Raney before Steffens fired home No. 200 with 28 seconds on the clock. Melissa Seidemann (239), Lauren Silver (239), Kiley Neushul (222) and Ellen Estes (214) are the other Cardinal to score that many in a career.

Stanford had five different goal scorers rattle the cage in the second quarter, Katie Dudley, Raney, Klass, Makenzie Fischer and Sophia Monaghan. The Cardinal's 12 goal scorers surpassed the 11 it had both in yesterday's 21-3 win over La Verne and in its 21-2 victory against UC Davis on the first day of the season.

Neushul scored two of Stanford's three in the third quarter and the Cardinal tacked on an additional three in the final period.

On the weekend, Stanford outscored its three opponents 49-7.

The Cardinal will take a break next weekend for finals before resuming MPSF play at home on Saturday, March 25 against CSU Bakersfield at 1 p.m.
