Golfers in Paradise

STANFORD, Calif. – After almost a month layoff for finals, the top-ranked Stanford women's golf returns to competition on Monday in the 54-hole Anuenue Spring Break Classic at the Kapalua Bay Course in Maui, Hawaii. Fifteen teams will participate.

The Cardinal has won three consecutive tournaments this spring, prevailing at the Peg Barnard Invitational, Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate and Bruin Wave Invitational. However, the team will not be at full strength.

Talented freshmen Andrea Lee, the No. 1-ranked women's college player in the country, and Albane Valenzuela, who has posted three straight top 10 showings, will not compete. Both accepted amateur invitations to play in the ANA Inspiration this week, the LPGA Tour's first major championship of 2017.

Fortunately, Anne Walker, the Milias Director of Women's Golf, has depth. Stanford will be led by senior Casey Danielson, ranked fourth in the country. She has placed seventh or higher six times this season, and fourth or better in her last four starts. Her 71.94 scoring average ranks second on the squad behind Lee.

Joining Danielson in paradise are senior Jisoo Keel, junior Shannon Aubert, freshman Madie Chou and sophomore Sierra Kersten. Freshman Ziyi Wang will play as an individual.

A shotgun start will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday beginning at 10:45 a.m. PT. The course measures 6,012 yards and plays to a par-72.
