KAPALUA, Maui – Senior Casey Danielson and junior Shannon Aubert fired 1-over 73s on Monday to pace the top-ranked Stanford women's golf team in the opening round of the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at Kapalua Bay Resort.
Both carded two birdies and three bogeys on the Bay Course at Kapalua, and are tied for ninth individually.
Lilia Vu of UCLA shot 67 to pace all players in the 54-hole, 15-team event.
Seeking its fourth consecutive win of the spring season, the Cardinal combined for an 11-over score of 299. UCLA leads at 3-over 291.
Freshman Madie Chou added a 75 and sophomore Sierra Kersten a 78 and are tied for 23rd and 43rd, respectively, in the count four of five scores tournament. Senior Jisoo Keel added an 83 and is tied for 73rd.
Competing as an individual, freshman Ziyi Wang recorded a 78.
Stanford is playing without freshmen Andrea Lee and Albane Valenzuela. Lee, the No. 1-ranked collegiate player in the country, and Valenzuela received amateur invitations to participate in the prestigious ANA Inspiration this week in Rancho Mirage, California. It is the LPGA Tour's first major championship of 2017.
The second round will be played Tuesday, beginning with a shotgun start at 10:45 a.m. PT.
