Kuet Earns Pac-12 Honor

STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Jesse Kuet delivered a dramatic walk off on Sunday, and was named Pac-12 Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday.

The walk off capped an impressive week for Kuet. He hit .556 (10-for-18) with six runs, six RBI and a .600 on-base percentage to help lead No. 9 Stanford (37-14, 18-9 Pac-12) to a 4-1 week and the program's first sweep of Washington since 2011.

Kuet came up with two outs and two on in the 10th inning on Senior Day, which also marked the final home game for head coach Mark Marquess, who is retiring after 41 seasons at the helm of the Cardinal. He smacked a single to right on the first pitch and sparked an emotional Cardinal celebration.

Kuet, who has started the last 10 games in place of injured third baseman Mikey Diekroeger, also had a career-high four hits and four RBI with two runs on a 4-for-5 night at Santa Clara on Wednesday. And on Friday, the Huntington Beach native went 2-for-3 with two more runs, including the game-tying run in the seventh. That was followed by a 1-for-2 night with two runs, a walk and a big eighth-inning RBI that gave the Cardinal an insurance run in a 7-5 victory. Then on Sunday, he was 2-for-5 with the game-winning RBI.

This is the first Pac-12 weekly honor for Kuet and the sixth this season for the Cardinal. Matt Winaker was recognized on May 1, while Quinn Brodey was named Pac-12 Player of the Week and Colton Hock was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week on March 7. Brodey also won the award on March 14. Junior southpaw Andrew Summerville took home top pitcher honors on Feb. 28.

Kuet and the Cardinal have won 18 of the last 20 games, as well as six straight Pac-12 series.

The Cardinal, which sits in second place in the Pac-12 and can finish no lower than third, concludes the regular season at Washington State, May 25-27.

Regional hosts will be announced on May 28 and the Regional fields will be announced on May 29 at 9 a.m. PT on ESPNU.
