STANFORD, Calif. - Sophomore Kris Bubic tossed eight shut out innings, and junior Quinn Brodey hit a pair of home runs as No. 8 seed Stanford blanked Sacramento State 10-0 on Thursday night in the opening game of the NCAA Stanford Regional.
Stanford, which is hosting an NCAA Regional for the first time since 2012, moves on to face Cal State Fullerton on Friday at 6 p.m. PT.
Stanford (41-14) was dominant throughout. The Cardinal combined for four home runs while Bubic scattered five hits and struck out a career-high 11 in Stanford's largest postseason shut out since May 27, 1983 against Oregon State (14-0).
Brodey's 4-for-4 night paced a 13-hit Stanford attack while Jack Klein and Matt Winaker also homered. All three players finished with two RBI.
The Cardinal took control early, scoring one run in each of the first four innings before a four-run seventh put the game out of reach.
Stanford, which entered the postseason as one of the nation's hottest teams, has now won eight in a row and 22 of its last 24.
"I have coached a lot of years, and I don't think I've ever had a team that's made a run like that, especially in conference," said head coach Mark Marquess, who's Cardinal also extended its home winning streak to 11 games. "We have had a good run and I think we have grown, no question. Guys have really stepped up. That makes it special. Everybody is contributing. I'm really proud of this group and they have learned how to win."
Freshman Daniel Bakst opened the scoring in the first with a two-out double to plate Brodey, who also scored four times on the night. Klein lined one over the 375-foot marker in left center in the second and Brodey dented the scoreboard in right center in the third.
Stanford led 5-0 entering the seventh and added four more, including a two-run blast to right from Winaker and Brodey's second solo shot of the night.

Meanwhile, Bubic was on cruise control. He allowed just one base runner through the first five innings, and faced just four batters over the minimum in a career-long outing.
Fullerton also advanced to the winner's bracket with a 13-2 win over BYU earlier in the afternoon.
NUMBERS
Stanford scored in all but one inning (fifth), and now has 10 or more hits in 10 straight games. Duke Kinamon was 2-for-4 with two runs, while Brandon Wulff and Jesse Kuet each extended their hitting streaks to a career-best 11 games with 1-for-3 performances. Junior Keith Weisenberg pitched a scoreless ninth and struck out two.
