ANAHEIM, Calif. – Recent graduate Akash Modi claimed a fourth-place finish as well as the parallel bar title Saturday at the P&G Gymnastics Championships alongside fellow Stanford alumnus Eddie Penev, who placed 27th and tied for the floor and vault event titles.

Modi posted a strong showing on day one of the competition, finishing the day in second in the all-around, while leading the field in high bar (14.200) and tied for the lead (14.700) on parallel bars.

Coming off a 14.250 on floor on day one, Modi followed that with a 13.950 to finish eighth in the event. On pommel horse, Modi increased his 12.750 from day one with a 13.200 to finish 13th.

The former Cardinal was solid on rings next following a 14.600 with a 14.550 for a seventh place finish before tying for 11th on vault with a 14.200 on day one and a 13.850 on day two. Eddie Penev stepped up on vault to tie for the event title with back-to-back 14.700 scores.

Modi continued his dominance on parallel bars from his day one score of 14.700 to improve with a 14.750 and claim the event title before closing the competition on high bar. The day one leader on the high bar with a 14.200, Modi scored a 13.500 on day two to finish in fifth place.

Modi's fourth-place finish ties his best finish from the 2016 P&G Championship in addition to his first career event title at the championship on parallel bars.

In addition to his 27th place finish and tying for two event titles, Eddie Penev was also named to represent Team USA at the 2017 World Championships Oct 2-8 in Montreal.
