Annapolis, Md./New Haven, Conn. - Stanford sailing earned a pair of top 10 finishes on the East Coast over the weekend. The Cardinal was fourth at Navy's Truxtun Umsted, and seventh at the Yale Women's regatta.
In the four division regatta in Annapolis, the Cardinal finished fourth with 410 points. Among the 20-team regatta, only Georgetown (361), Hobart and William Smith (385) and the Merchant Marine Academy (388) bested the Cardinal, who led the regatta after 34 of the 52 races. Stanford improved 11 spots from a 15th-place finish at the Truxton Umstead last season.
In the A Division, skipper Will La Dow and crew Taylor Kirkpatrick were seventh with 101 points, while in the B Division freshman skipper Romain Screve and junior Meg Gerli finished third with 73 points. Senior Luke Muller, coming off his win at the PCCSC Singlehanded Championships, was fifth with 89 points in the C Division. Sophomore Nestor Cano was 13th in the D Division with 147 points.
Up the coast, in New Haven, Stanford was seventh with 215 points. In the 18-team regatta, Coast Guard (114), Brown (122) and Dartmouth (126) took the top three spots. In the A Division, junior skipper Mimi El-Khazindar and sophomore crew Madeline Bubb finished 11th with 135 points. In the B Division, the freshman tandem of Stephanie Houck and Sophia Sole won both of the final two races to jump into fourth with a total of 81 points.
Next up for the Cardinal is the Mrs. Hurst Women's in Hanover, N.H., and the Hoyt Trophy in Providence, R.I., Oct. 21-22.
