STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford honored its seniors in a pregame ceremony and the Cardinal's seven member class put on a show Saturday in leading Stanford to its 11th consecutive victory, an 18-3 win over Santa Clara.
Senior goalie Drew Holland posted four saves in one quarter of action to become the first Cardinal (18-3) to top the 900-save mark for his career. Holland, who has 902 career saves, established the school saves record earlier this season.
Senior Sam Pfeil got it started with a goal in the first minute of the game. Stanford surged out to a 5-0 lead, which also included goals from seniors Reid Chase and Jackson Kimbell. Kimbell got the ball around two meters out and spun around his defender to put home his first score of the match.
Holding a 5-1 advantage after one quarter, Stanford continued to stretch its lead. The Cardinal scored five more goals in the second quarter. After a Tyler Abramson score, junior Blake Parrish corralled a free ball in front of the cage and punched it home.
Continuing the senior theme from the first quarter, Justin Roberto followed a Kimbell score with a pair of goals of his own to give the Cardinal a 10-1 halftime lead.
Stanford added five more goals in the third quarter, with senior Connor Stapleton getting his first goal of the match and Pfeil and Chase posting their second scores of the contest.
The Cardinal tacked on three more goals in the fourth to win it, 18-3.
Holland handed the goalie duties over to sophomore Andrew Chun in the second quarter. Chun posted nine stops in goal over the final three quarters.
Stanford now awaits its seeding for this coming weekend's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships at Avery Aquatic Center. The MPSF Championships run from Nov. 17-19. Tickets to the event can be found here.
