Cardinal Introduces Class of 2022

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford women's swimming and diving officially welcomed the Class of 2022 on Thursday. Nine future Cardinal -- Zoe Bartel, Amalie Fackenthal, Anya Goeders, Daria Lenz, Lucie Nordman, Allie Raab, Taylor Ruck, Carolina Sculti and Morgan Tankersly -- will join the program next season as announced by head coach Greg Meehan.

"I couldn't be more excited about this class," said Meehan, the Paul A. Violich Director of Women's Swimming. "This group of young women will bring a high level of athleticism to our program, but just as important, they each bring a personal touch I believe will make our team better every day. On their official visit weekend, it was very clear how connected they were with each other, and how much they are going to add to the dynamic of the team culture."  

The seven swimmers of the Class of 2022 hails from seven different states and all four time zones -- Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Tennessee and Texas.

"Tracy Slusser and Patrick Jeffrey have been vital to our recruiting success, and we are pleased to have a top three recruiting class for the fourth straight year. But we are most proud of the women that this program is producing – they have embraced the scholar-athleticism of Stanford swimming & diving, and are achieving in all facets of their lives."

Stanford has also secured arguably the top two women's diving recruits in the Class of 2022 in Lenz and Sculti. 

"This is a very strong class with a ton of potential," said Jeffrey, who is in his fourth season as Stanford's head diving coach. "Both divers are known for their work ethic and share the desire to reach the next level. I love their fit with our team culture and I'm really excited to start working with them."  Zoe Bartel

Hometown: Fort Collins, Colo.
Club Team: Fort Collins Area Swim Team
Strokes: Breast/IM
Three Swim Facts: Swam three events at 2016 Olympic Trials (100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM), holds state record in the 100 breast, three-time individual state champion (100 breast and 200 IM in 2017).
Three Fun Facts: Has been helicopter skiing. Foodie. Can solve a rubik's cube.

Amalie Fackenthal
High School: Sacramento Country Day School
Hometown: Carmichael, Calif.
Club Team: DART Swimming
Strokes: Free/Fly
Three Swim Facts: Two-time state champion (50 and 100 free in 2017), qualified for 2016 Olympic Trials, member of USA Swimming National Junior team (2017). 
Three Fun Facts: Violinist since age 4. Self-trained ukulele player. Team DJ.

 

Anya Goeders
High School: Lowell High School
Hometown: Lowell, Ind.
Club Team: MAKO Swim Team; Crown Point Swim Team
Strokes: Free/Back
Three Swim Facts: Holds six club records, competed for Team USA at 2016 World Cup in Japan and China, was the youngest semifinalist in the 50 free at the 2016 Olympic Trails. 
Three Fun Facts: Loves gardening. Wants to visit outer space one day. Interested in saving the planet.

 

Daria Lenz
High School: Polytechnic School
Hometown: Altadena, Calif.
Club Team: SoCal Diving Club
Strokes: Diving
Three Diving Facts: Undefeated Prep League champion, three-time CIF Division champion, finished seventh at the 2017 World Championship Trials on the platform.
Three Fun Facts: Plays the piano. Favorite diver is Olympian David Boudia. Also competed in gymnastics.
 

 

Lucie Nordman
High School: Woodlands High School
Hometown: Woodlands, Texas
Club Team: Magnolia Aquatic Club
Strokes: Back/Free/Fly
Three Swim Facts: 12-time All-American, seven-time state champion, holds four state records.
Three Fun Facts: Enjoys hiking and wake surfing. Swam to a fourth-place finish for Magnolia Aquatic Club with sisters Lillie and Mary on the 4x100 free relay at 2017 USA Swimming Summer Junior Nationals. Interested in studying human biology and psychology.

I'm thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Stanford University! I'm so thankful for this opportunity to continue my growth in the pool and in the classroom. Allie Raab

Three Swim Facts: Two-time defending Tennessee state champion in the 100 breast, Tennessee state record in the 100 breast, competed for Team USA at 2016 Junior Pan Pacs. 
Three Fun Facts: Loves to wear crazy socks. Favorite band is Needtobreathe. Attended three high schools.

 

Taylor Ruck
High School: Chaparral High School
Hometown: Scottsdale, Ariz.
Club Team: Scottsdale Aquatic Club

Highlights: Two-time Olympic bronze medalist, Three-time state Swimmer of the Year, holds five state records

Carolina Sculti
High School: Rye
Hometown: Rye, N.Y.
Club Team: Marlins Diving
Strokes: Diving
Three Diving Facts: 1-meter champion at the 2015 Junior Pan American Games, platform champion at the 2011 Junior Pan American games, and two Top 10 finishes (1 and 3 meter) at the 2017 USA diving national championships.
Three Fun Facts: Studies Chinese. Started diving when she was six. Favorite diver is Laura Wilkinson.

 

Morgan Tankersly
High School: H.B. Plant High School
Hometown: Tampa, Fla.
Club Team: Greater Tampa Swimming Association
Strokes: Free
Three Swim Facts: Swimming World's 2016-17 Female National Swimmer of the Year, multiple All-American (2014-16), holds three state high school records (100, 200 and 500 free).
Three Fun Facts: I have played the piano since I was six. I also play the violin, but not as well as the piano. My dream is to dive with and study great white sharks.
