Fall Season Closes on Saturday

AUSTIN, Texas – Stanford continued its final event of the fall season on Friday night with several swimmers improving their times on Day 3 of the Texas Invitational.

"We had a really strong morning to set us up for some great races tonight," said Goldman Family Director of Men's Swimming Ted Knapp. "Most of the upperclassmen continue to outperform their times from this meet last season, and several freshmen will leave here with new personal bests."

Abrahm DeVine started the night off with a sizeable time drop in the 400-yard individual medley. DeVine (3:44.75) led the Cardinal with a third-place finish and a two-second drop from the morning, while Alex Liang (3:45.32) and Curtis Ogren (3:45.56) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Next, it was Andrew Liang and Brad Zdroik's turn to drop time from the morning in the 100-yard butterfly. Liang (45.87) bagged a fourth-place finish and Zdroik (46.13) finished sixth.

Grant Shoults (1:33.51) shaved over a second from his preliminary time in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing fourth. Liam Egan (1:35.36) won the B-final, also dropping over one half second from his morning swim.

Matt Anderson (52.92) just missed his personal best in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in third place. Brennan Pastorek (53.56) and Hank Poppe (53.95) also qualified for the A-final, finishing sixth and eighth, respectively.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Ryan Dudzinski (46.76) led Stanford with eighth place. Glen Cowand (47.55) and Ben Ho (47.71) each qualified for the B-final, finishing seventh and eighth in the heat, respectively.

Stanford's quartet of Dudzinski, Anderson, Andrew Liang and Sam Perry (1:25.50) finished the night with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.

Stanford returns to action tomorrow on the final day of the Texas Invitational. Tomorrow's events include the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and 1,650-yard freestyle. All heats of the 1,650 free except for the last will take place at the end of the morning session. Live results will be available at GoStanford.com.
