ST. LOUIS - Knocking off four seeded wrestlers in a three-day span, redshirt sophomore
Paul Fox placed seventh at 157 pounds, Saturday, at the 2017 NCAA Wrestling Championships at the Scottrade Center. As a team, Stanford finished 24th with 16.0 team points.
Fox, who was unseeded entering the tournament, scored three takedowns in the opening period against 14th-seeded Sal Mastriani of Virginia Tech in the seventh-place bout. Leading 8-4 after the second, he added another takedown and a reversal in the third, while finishing with 1:44 of riding time.
A native of Gilroy, California, Fox became the 10th underclassman in program history to reach All-America status on Friday night. He is one of just three unseeded All-Americans in the 2017 tournament, finishing the season at 29-15. Fox is now 51-22 in two seasons on The Farm.
Stanford set a program record with nine NCAA qualifiers in 2017.
