Freshmen Features: Part IV

STANFORD, Calif. - Freshmen from the Stanford women's lacrosse team answer some frequently asked questions and give some insight into what it's like to be a freshman at Stanford. Our fourth installment:
What were you most nervous about starting your freshman year and how has that changed?
Rachel Cowan (Cherry Hills Village, Colorado)
I was most nervous about learning how to balance all parts of my new college life, especially academics and athletics. Luckily, this has not been an issue at all because of the awesome support we get from our coaches, advisors, and the upperclassmen on our team who are always willing to give us advice and answer our questions. As long as you self-advocate and stay organized, it all is extremely doable.

Trudie Grattan (Richmond, Virginia)
I was most nervous about the workload with lacrosse and school. After being here, I realize how many resources I have that can help me manage the workload.

Katherine Gjertsen (Winnetka, Illinois)
I was nervous to start freshman year because I knew the transition to the pace of college was going to be challenging. However, with amazing communities that I have found through my teammates and my freshman dorm, the transition has been a lot easier than I anticipated. Although the campus is one of the largest in the world, I still have been able to find many people that help make it feel like a small, tight-knit community.

Galen Lew (Glen Ridge, New Jersey)
I was most nervous about being able to stay on top of your academics and taking the right kinds of classes to ultimately figure out your major. But I have found that even though Stanford is a very academically rigorous school it has also allowed me to explore as many interests as I desire. In every subject area there is someone you can relate to that can help you.

Gabby Noto (Atherton, California)
I was nervous about what classes I was going to take because frankly I have no idea what I want to major in, but we, as athletes, have an extra athletic academic advisor named Melissa. She is so awesome. She puts you on the right path and sets you up for success. I am so lucky to have so many mentors to guide me in a positive direction.

Chelsea Trattner (Ridgewood, New Jersey)
I was most nervous about balancing being both a student and athlete at Stanford, but that fear completely dissipated my first week here. There are a myriad of resources at Stanford that are fueled by a community of people who want to make sure you have the best and most fulfilling experience at Stanford. It may seem hard to feel a sense of support when you are surround by so many people going through the same things, but at Stanford I feel like I have numerous people in my circle here who are rooting for me.

Marianna Salvatori (Baltimore, Maryland)
I was most nervous about being homesick my freshman year. Although I am still struggling with it, Stanford is starting to feel like home.

Taylor Scornavacco (San Diego, California)
I was definitely very nervous about the rigor of classes matched with my busy schedule. However, I have found that like everything else in life, if you put your mind to it and diedicate yourself. To the goal or dream you have, anything is possible.
