STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford freshman guard Daejon Davis has been voted the Pac-12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Davis averaged 15.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists to lead Stanford to its first conference road sweep in eight seasons and its first four-game winning streak in conference play in 10 seasons.
The Cardinal defeated Washington State, 79-70, this past Thursday and Washington, 73-64, this past Saturday on the road.
Playing in his hometown of Seattle for the first time, the freshman posted his first career double-double with 16 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in leading the Cardinal to the win over the Huskies. With Stanford holding a two-point edge late, Davis connected on a three-pointer to seal the road win.
Against Washington State, Davis scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half, including eight during a pivotal 24-5 Cardinal run that turned a nine-point second-half deficit into a 10-point lead and eventual win over the Cougars.
Davis is only the fourth Stanford freshman to win conference Player of the Week honors in school history and the first since Jan. 29, 2007, when then-freshman Brook Lopez recorded a triple double against USC. The other two Cardinal freshmen to win the award are Jason Collins on Nov. 27, 1999 and Howard Wright on Feb. 3, 1986.
Davis is the first Stanford player overall to win the Pac-12 Player of the Week award since Anthony Brown on Dec. 29, 2014.
Stanford (10-8, 4-1) hosts No. 16 Arizona State Wednesday at 8 p.m. PT and No. 14 Arizona Saturday at 1 p.m. PT at Maples Pavilion.
