STANFORD, Calif. – The synchronized swimming team started the 2018 season in strong fashion by defeating Wheaton College on Saturday.
Getting great support from family and friends at Belardi Pool at the Avery Aquatic Center, seniors Erica Slavin and Clare McGovern and junior Dylan Harding finished 1-2-3 on Friday night in the technical competition.
On Saturday, Stanford finished first in duet, trio and team. Slavin and senior Sandra Ortellado won duet with a score of 79.6000, while Slavin, Ortellado and McGovern claimed trio with a total of 76.0667, followed by teammates Rachel Hyon, Jacklyn Luu and Caitlin Klauer (72.9000).
In the team routine, the Cardinal went 1-2, with Slavin, Ortellado, McGovern, Hyon, Luu, Klauer, Joanna Langner and Natalie Fletcher posting 80.000. Harding, Amanda Urke, Elle Billman, Gillian Brassil, Karen Li, Lily Randhawa and Sophia Susac placed second with 78.1500.
The Cardinal did not compete in solo.
"The athletes did a great job," said head coach Sara Lowe. "We have been focusing on approaching the swims with energy from beginning to end and not holding back. I was happy to see individuals able to do this, but we still have some work to do in the team routines."
Stanford resumes competition Friday and Saturday, when the B team competes against Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. The element competition begins at 7 p.m. ET, followed by the routines on Saturday at noon ET.
